It literally goes without saying that Tom Wilson’s portrayal of Biff Tannen has to be one of, if not the best screen bully in the history of cinema. He managed to take what could have been a one-note character and give him a complexity and realism had only by the greatest screen villains. Part of the realism that we love about back to the future comes from the great directing, producing, and screenwriting, and giving us a glimpse of Biff Tannen’s home life with his Grandmother adds a lot of depth to the character, without taking away any of the menace.

In Back to the Future part II, Marty is hunting for 1955 Biff, to recover the Gray’s sports almanac Old Biff from alternate 1985 brought him. By looking up “the only Tannen in the phonebook” Marty tracks Biff down at his Grandmother’s home! And despite the lack of lawn ornaments and chain link, the home is still exactly as Biff might remember it. Only instead of the fictional Hill Valley, this home is on the exact same street that served for George and Lorraine’s houses in part 1, Bushnell avenue in South Pasadena. Speaking of Biff Tannen, Tom Wilson, the actor who played him (and his relatives!) in the Back to the Future Trilogy, is actually selling some of his paintings (including a great poster/print of Griff’s Pit Bull hoverboard from part II) online. One extra bit of information! Our friend Chris Day noticed, for the first time ever, discovered and pointed out to us that when Marty is across the street spying on biff, he’s not actually on Bushnell Avenue! Nope! He’s standing on Colonial Street on the Universal backlot, in front of the Klopeck house from “the ‘Burbs!” Thanks Chris!
